Story time at Great Wolf
Recently the Great Wolf Lodge (Pocono Mountains location) extended an invitation to my family to visit their site and enjoy an overnight stay as their guest. We were going to be trying out the brand new Story Explorers feature, which sounded fun.
We tacked on an extra night just for fun, and arrived a day early to enjoy the indoor water park. We had a blast! Tori jumped over the waves in the wave pool for HOURS, literally. She loved the water slides (although she stuck to the smallest ones), and I enjoyed the free wifi in the pool area (of course I was working!).
As evening came, we ate at the buffet, and then watched the trademark story hour, and settled Tori in bed. It was fun.
On Saturday, we got up, had breakfast on the lodge at the buffet and then we headed on to the Story Explorers event.
The Great Wolf Lodges are well-known for their site-wide MagiQuest game, but it’s meant for kids older than my daughter. Story Explorers
has some similar features but is specifically designed for younger kids.
The game works like this: the kids first visit the shop where they choose a character from the game (my daughter picked Violet), which is then stuffed for them, including a small star “wish.” Then they receive an armband embedded with a code that they take around to the various Story Explorer locations, revealing the story, saving the “W’s” and saving

Tori, in a word, LOVED IT. For the rest of the day she made sure she told everyone, “I saved Story Time!” It was adorable.
Overall, our experience was great, but some elements of the Lodge surprised me. It really is a family destination, but there is little for the adults to do – there’s a bit of Chuck E. Cheese on steroids about the place, without much respite for adults. On the second night

a couple of the other mom bloggers attending and I decided to hang out after the kids were asleep (safe in their rooms with our husbands) and we couldn’t find a place that was quiet to hang out. Also, I didn’t love the buffet. Lastly, the animatronic story hour thing was… disturbing, frankly, but you cannot argue with how much the kids LOVE it.
But the good part is that it IS clearly designed to get kids up and moving about and running around, and that is great. I would definitely consider going again!

The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.
