In the movie, I'll be played by Queen Latifah (even though I'm not black)
Today started out only slightly better than yesterday. The slightly better part is thanks to all of your wonderful comments. I did feel like I could manage to hold my head up all day at work (being nice to customers, well, let’s just say it’s a really good thing we had a snow storm).
But then, it all changed with an email... Because I’m completely and utterly shallow, an ego boost can really get me going.
A few weeks back, Elise’s sister was hanging out with her Australian fiancé and some of his down-under buddies when the subject of blogging came up. Turns out one of the friends was reporter Leigh Sales, and she was working on a piece about blogs for the Australian Broadcasting Network (radio division). While Leigh initially thought that most blogs were political, Elise’s sis was quick to tell her about the infertile blogosphere and directed her to this site.
As a result, she contacted me to do a brief phone interview, which I gave, of course, because I am nothing if not a media whore.
The interview was broadcast sometime over the weekend. Feel free to listen to it here. My interview is in Part Two (listed on the right).
It’s a really cool piece—Leigh did an amazing job with it. It surprised me to hear my entries read out loud by someone else (surprised Sarah too, since they also read her posts from when I was in the hospital). And what entries they chose! We’d never get away with including that whole nipple thing here in the states.
Leigh emailed me and said I should write a book, and then who will play me in the movie? I said they’d probably want some skinny chick, but I’d settle for Courtney Cox (at least she’s been through this hell and we have the same hair and eye color) but Queen Latifah is a woman “of size” who would bring just the right amount of diva-tude to the role… don’t ya think?
I’ll remember you all when I’m famous, I promise. And thanks to Sarah for today’s entry title…
EDITED TO ADD: If you don't have audio capability, here is a link to a transcript of the piece.

Queen Latifiah would be a perfect pick......Maybe it is the role that will finally win her a much deserved Academy Award
Dream big Cecily!!!
LOVE

Nice one!
Good for you.

If we are going for size, I like Camryn Manheim. I think she is beautiful and strong like you. Besides she is the right color as well LOL. Can't agree on Courtney Cox, she irks me. How about Brooke Shields. Glad to hear your doing better. Love Stacey

This is so amazingly cool! And what did I love the most? Getting to hear YOUR voice and putting it to that smiling face of yours. I say write the book! Can I play your Canadian fan? hehe

wahhhhh
no speakers at work
Please don't forget your fans now that you've hit the big time

Queen Latifah would just be you, but with a tan. ;o)

Oh, I agree, the Queen would definitely give you your props.
Great interview!

How lovely to hear your voice. Of course I cried hearing those entries read out. Guess you'll be getting another upsurge in traffic from Australia now.

Bravo, Cecily! Well done. Like someone has already mentioned, it was wonderful to hear YOUR voice during the interview. Whadya know .. you're REAL! LOL (Try telling that to my DH though, who I swear believes everyone out here is a figment of my imagination). Anyhow, I'm really glad your story is continuing to be told, and I also vote for you writing a book. I think it's an important story that needs to be told.
Much love to you!

whoo hoo!
can i have your autograph?

I totally heard that story on the radio yesterday!!!
I heard the American accents, but it wasn't until the end that I heard your name mentioned. I felt sort of famous by association....'cos I read your blog.
Australians aren't very good bloggers, in my opinion, we're more reserved and less given to sharing personal information about ourselves...also a lot of people don't even know what blogging is....
I've been reading internet journals, diaries and blogs for about 13 years now...and most of my friends still think I'm crazy and don't know what I'm on about. Yet some of the bloggers I've been reading for ever such a long time are almost better friends than those I have in person. I often feel that I know some bloggers better.
you're a swell gal, and an inspiration,

Great story.
And Courteney Cox is just too perky.

I love Queen Latifah! She can definitely play the part!
I want the first autograph ;)

Ahh, Midwest accent. So nice to hear the voice behind the powerful words. And good to hear we loyal readers have had a positive impact in your life (well, most of us, anyway). You're famous, baby!! Don't forget the little people!
I vote for Queen Latifah. Who gives a rat's ass if you two aren't the same skin color? Cox is too, I don't know, mainstream whitebread-ish, know what I mean? She doesn't have the umph you have. I think someday you should seriously consider writing a book, though. Seriously.

It was so fantastic to hear your voice!
Great story btw, very well done I thought. Whoo Hoo, Cecily hits the big time ;) GO CECILY! Proud of you.

Queen Latifah. I vote Queen Latifah. She seems to have that same positive despite the negatives attitude. Plus, she'd probably say motherfucker. How about Anthony Kiedis? He went through some serious shit, and we KNOW he he'll say motherfucker. ;)
Can you add a poll to the blog?

I have to say one more time how cool it was to hear you in the story and hear your entries being read. You rock! And I think Queen Latifah is a perfect choice. She rocks too.

I see three career choices in your future:
1. writer (book author, playwright, essayist, anything that involves writing)
2. therapist: you are so completely compassionate, understanding and smart. You are attuned to the inner workings of the human psyche so well
3. AND NOW ... radio announcer/reporter. what a great voice!
bravo!
I like the choice of Queen Latifah.

Finally, the attention you deserve! I'd be a media whore, if I just had a platform...

you're not a woman of -size- ... you're a woman of -shape- ... get it right. =)

Wow! How great to hear your voice. Glad you are a media whore! ;o) Thanks for saying you'll remember us when you're (even more) famous.
Sorry your day sucked so bad yesterday, honey. I was thinking of you and sending you the strongest healing vibes I could muster.
And thanks for posting my joke, I felt like I was sitting at the cool kids' lunch table or something. Ha. Must confess it was not *my* joke at all...just something that got forwarded to me and resonated rather deeply.
You rock, as usual. Please continue to share your story and feelings with us. Peace to you.

Exceptional of course - just like you.
Well done.
Although I am a bit miffed - I mean, I live in Australia and have my own infertile blog, but did they come and talk to me? NO!. I guess it proves that it (my blog) can't stand up to your work! LOL Nah, seriously, I am so excited for you. How nice is it to be recognised!

How neat to hear your voice! I'm glad your writings (and you!) are getting the recognition you deserve. You are an amazing woman and and inspiration to many.
Can I have your autograph?

Wonderful piece Cecily! You sounded wonderful and I agree with some of the commenters above, it was great to hear your voice! Bravo!

What a wonderful interview! Congrats and keep it up!
Posted by: Kris | Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 08:36 AM
Fab interview and like everyone, totally buzzed at getting to hear your voice. You sounded more interesting and more professional than both the reporter AND the blog actor/reader. Speaking of which, did anyone else find the person they chose to read your blog a bit too perky sounding? You never sounded like that in my head.
Congrats on the well deserved recognition. You make a huge difference in a lot of our lives.

That is just too cool!! And to think... I knew you when. I agree - write the book! There are so many sucky books out there on infertility - we need more good ones.
Posted by: Julie | Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 08:53 AM
Woohoo! That rocks! :) Completely outstanding.
Posted by: Ellen | Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 10:37 AM
OK...because I tend to focus on the more IMPORTANT things in life, I just wanted to make extra double sure (much like double secret probation...) that you'll still have a pit bull in the movie. Because that would ROCK. I think Hammer is ready for his acting debut based on how lovely his photographs are.
If Hammer requires a sexy little pittie love interest, I've got just the girl for him...

i agree with the suggestion above of camryn manheim. besides, queen latifah is playing ME. :-)
no, actually, i'd probably want kate winslet.

Cecily, that is so cool. I loved hearing your "live" voice! I've gotten to hear the live voices of 2 of my fave bloggers in the past 2 weeks- you and Dooce!
Posted by: KellyH | Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at 11:44 AM
The interview was really neat . . . I found myself on edge waiting for them to get to Sarah & Charlie's entries and then crying when they got there . . . ok, I'm still crying . . . moving on . . .
Speaking of crying, have you seen the dog show video with the golden retriever and the song from Grease? That dog is SO FREAKING HAPPY that I cried for ten minutes. I'll email it to you if you want . . .
And for some reason, I was surprised that your voice sounded so *normal*. I can't even explain that thought, except that maybe my subconscious expected you to sound abnormal?!?
hugs, chica.
