Things I haven't blogged about because I'm too busy obsessive-compulsively unpacking and spending oodles of money
1. John Roberts. Is there a blander man in America? Could he possibly be any fucking whiter? I have little to say on this subject because I feel like there is absolutely nothing we can do. The best spin I can put on it is that his wife is a board member of Feminists For Life, which in the universe of anti-choice groups, only sucks a little.
2. Karl Rove. I was chortling about this whole debacle at first and enjoying watching him squirm until I realized he wasn't squirming, he's wriggling with glee because his boss will never fire him no matter what. Wonder what medal/promotion he'll get.... (and yes, I totally stole that joke from The Daily Show).
3. This. I'm so happy for Sarah and Pete I could, I don't know, plotz.
4. Speaking of plotzing, congrats Grrl!
5. Here, here, here and here (you can't really see the last one; it's the chair that at the bottom left corner of the photo) are the new pieces of furniture we bought. it's very exciting. Add in this and this and this and you'll see we could star in our own home makeover show...
Perhaps in my next entry we'll begin to examine why I forgo sleep, food, and sex (and meetings, worst yet) in order to put books on the shelves and hang the art in my new home. Is it a desperate need to make order out of chaos? A pathological hatred of boxes?
On a more ironic note, today Charlie and I realized that the wonderfully convenient racks in the basement entryway we've been using to store the broom and swiffer are actually gun racks, judging by the recent issue of "Shooter's" catalog sent to this home's previous owners.

Congrats!!!!! Enjoy spending the $- & creating your home! Can't wait to see pic's( hint hint)

Things will settle down soon...you know, by Christmas. ;-)
Seriously though, it's been a crazy rollercoaster ride--just the house stuff--and anyone would be a bit beside herself now. Add to that the last year of rollercoasters, and I think you are doing pretty damn well.
You better be at the mtg. tomorrow night, however, or I will be really mad! (I was going to say 'kick your ass', but we both know I would lose badly in that fight. lol)

Love the new stuff! Congrats again on your new home!

remember the chocolate-cake cooking librarian wannabe? ok, well now I saw your new furniture I *really* really want to come and work in your house! Congrats - it looks as though you're having so much fun - and who knew you could do so much with gun racks. I see a Martha segment in your future ;)have fun!

Aaack! A gun rack! (lol)
Love all the furniture choices. Can't wait to see 'em in the house.
Sounds like you're having lots of fun settling in! :)

I think you are using the gun rack in just the right way! Congrats again. Glad there's some happy news in blogland these days.

those previous owners are idiots.
gun racks go in the back window of your pickup truck, not your fucking basement.
and by the way, we don't have basements down here in texas. the water table is too damned high, and the only thing below the 1/4" layer of dirt is limestone. why would you want to blast a basement into wet limestone? would make your whole house smell like tums. ick.

I am in awe of your nesting ability. I've been living in my place for 3 years and I still have more packed boxes than unpacked. I have a total of one frame on my walls and about 20 framed pieces in a corner on the floor of my living room.
So once you get nice and settled, if you ever want to burn off some of that nesting energy, you are cordially invited to my place in Virginia! :-)
(Actually, please know you have an open invitation if you and Charlie are ever in the DC area!)

The furniture is beautiful! You both deserve this wonderful new home so much. I love how you are using the gun racks - too funny!

I love the furniture so much I might just copy your tv stand and buy one for me.
Posted by:Debe | July 26, 2005 at 09:33 AM
The furniture is wonderful! And the gun rack made me chuckle, at least you put it to better use than for guns.
I feel the same way about unpacking, the sooner you do it the sooner you can relax and enjoy where you are.
I kind of thought John Roberts looked rather Stepford-ish.

I'm glad you are settling in.
The furniture you chose looks like it would go really good together.
I'm very happy for you C !

gun racks? well, of course -- you're in the suburbs! I'm surprised you didn't find one right over the front door (or is that where you're hanging your keys?)...
I think John Roberts is a pod creature. Just like Karl Rove and the rest of 'em. I remember seeing a grainy surveillance pic of him in Roswell, which we all know is the reconnaissance point for aliens coming in to take over the earth because they know Americans are an easy mark.
(Yeah, I'm kidding... though it seems entirely plausible to me...)
I'm so damn happy for you guys!!!!!!!

WHoa...gorgeous taste in the furniture, looks fabulous and comfy too!!
Just wanted you to know I read Sarah's blog entry you noted and sent her a note. Luigi and I had to go through all that lovely INS crap to get him here, tell he to email me if she needs to vent!!
Dreams do come true..today is our 3rd wedding anniversary.

I unpack like that too - I'm crazed until its all done. I don't know how people can live with the boxes.
Good use for the gun racks - better than guns!

You must be having so much fun getting things just how you want them :)
LOVE all of your furniture!!! Exactly what I would pick :)

Gun racks. Wow. That's - gun racks. Alrighty.
God furniture choices. :) Everything looks very warm and inviting - not formal but not too casual, either. Enjoy!
(As for the politics - eh. I'm only consoled by the fact that Roberts nomination doesn't seemed to have suceeded in pushing Rove out of the public eye.)

Gun racks and Nascar, so does this mean you won't be keeping in touch with the previous owners? LOL. I'm loving the new furniture, can't wait to see how it looks in your new home (your new home, yay!).

During a moment of zen-like clarity came unto me the thought, 'Perhaps it's good that she is foregoing sleep, food, sex and meetings in order to put her home in order. It makes her so happy to do so that she doesn't need the food and meetings as much right now" . . . though I am concerned over you losing sleep (and maybe even the sex).
Any zen moments you have that would help me give up my addictions (food especially) and substitutes would be greatly appreciated!

Well, quest for order is the name of my blog, how odd that YOU'RE the one questing for order of your home and I'm the one saying put it in the basement we'll get to it eventually :-)
I LOVE the big squishy chair, it looks SO comfy. All the rest of the furniture is great too.
Yeah Sarah and Pete!
And gun racks? Oh my...
