Exactly!
Go read this. It says exactly what I feel. Thanks to Peach for the link.
Those of you who support the President; do you disagree with what is said here? Setting aside all of the blame, do you think he behaved properly? Like a man who loved his country?
Cause I sure don't.

Wow. Very well said. I have to agree.

Oh hell ya!
I just wanna scream now.

Heh. Beat you to it. I agree it sums up exactly how I feel.
Do not be surprised if your question to Bush supporters goes unanswered. My experience has been that when they get asked a question that goes right to the (evil cold dead) heart of the matter, they simply ignore it. It's amazing! And the media goes right along with it.

very well said. i saw a clip of Bush speaking about the tragedy with his customary snicker and swagger -- it was completely inappropriate and showed his total lack of human soul.

yes, yes, yes.
damn.
also, this AP item: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3343381
an excerpt:
"The top Senate Democrat today called for an investigation into the way the government dealt with Hurricane Katrina, including whether President Bush's Texas vacation interfered with the response. Republican chairmen pledged to focus on recovery now and investigate later.
"In a letter to the Senate's Homeland Security Committee chairwoman, Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada pressed for a wide-ranging investigation and answers to several questions, including: 'How much time did the president spend dealing with this emerging crisis while he was on vacation? Did the fact that he was outside of Washington, D.C., have any effect on the federal government's response?'"

Oh my God, yes. That is so true.
Posted by:tracy | September 07, 2005 at 12:35 PM
Why does it seem like every time something huge in this country happens the man is either on vacation or just got back from vacation? I am still haunted by the images of him being told that the country had been attacked and HE JUST SAT THERE.

That damn smirk he has...it makes me want to vomit.

Yes. Exactly. Fabulous link. Thanks! Did you catch Maureen Dowd's excellent NYTimes piece giving him a tongue lashing too: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/03/opinion/03dowd.html?incamp=article_popular

LOVED IT!
I was so mad when I heard his little pep talk. WTF? Let's look at saving lives right now! People are starving and he is talking about rebuilding???? Before we look to the future, let's admit to the current fuck up and take care of our people.

Oops. Sorry about the double post. See what happens when I get really mad and worked up. ; )

Random comments:
I assume you saw the Daily Show last night. I'd been waiting for their take on this and I wasn't disappointed.
As I heard Mo Rocca say on the radio Saturday, "The Bush Administration just doesn't do aftermaths."
And the comments by Barbara Bush that these people are poor so squalid stadium living is a step up. WTF?!

Hopefully, those who voted for this man because they thought he was a "compassionate conservative" who had "strong moral values" will reconsider.
He has no decency.

That post by Miss Allie is fucking brilliantly said. Catherine posted a link to it early this morning and I immediately added the site to my bloglines...how did i not know of this site before now?
Your posts and the comments the past few enteries have been wonderful...I mean I've learned a lot and been able to think about a lot of different angles.
You rock for creating such a safe forum for people to civilly disagree.
Posted by:Sarah | September 07, 2005 at 02:04 PM
Once again, I absolutely agree with you.
Posted by:KelliAmanda | September 07, 2005 at 02:10 PM
Yes, yes, yes!
The fact that Shrub kept his tee time the day before he flew over New Orleans to view the damage infuriates me.

Really well said. Thanks for the link.

"Those of you who support the President; do you disagree with what is said here?"
Yes. I disagree with much of what was said there.
"Do not be surprised if your question to Bush supporters goes unanswered"
Surprise!

Elena: erm, care to elaborate on that?
Posted by:Catherine | September 07, 2005 at 02:42 PM
That's exactly it. Fault & blame aside, he smirked and swaggered and made jokes (and worried about his fricking friend's fricking porch) while people were DYING. He acted like the lives of those people starving and hurting meant less than nothing to him personally. Whatever people want to say about state and local response, at least we could tell that the mayor and the congresspeople and the governor were upset, that they were AWARE of the death and destruction, and cared that something was done about it.
So if you disagree, if you think that Bush, as a HUMAN BEING, acted properly, then why, Elena?

Oh yeah, the buck, to quote Truman, stops at Bush. We didn't elect him, but he is the theoretical leader and he didn't lead. The whole family -- including Barbara who gets the Marie Antoinette award for the stupid STUPID comments she made about how much better the evacuees felt in Houston -- is incredibly disconnected from how the rest of us lives.

I differ with your politics, but I enjoy your blog. I'm a Bush supporter. It seems like people are asking for the impossible: an omnipotent leader who can control everything. Obviously, that's an unreasonable expectations. Likewise, I'd rather see a public leader handle the situation with dignity rather than being a puddle on the floor.
Posted by:hilby | September 07, 2005 at 03:29 PM
He has no compassion, no competency and no decency. And Cheney was off buying a second house while all this was happening - see http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/04/AR2005090401391.html
I think they both should be impeached along with firing Brown and his second and third in command - who are also political hacks with no emergency background.
I also think we all need to demand that the media follow up on the details of how the evacuees are treated in the coming months - they aren't going to get what they need if the selfish pigs in power get their way. Maybe the media has grown a spine now but how long will that last?

I agree with you that a dignified response would have been good! It would have been great! I didn't think his response WAS dignified though. W is very embarrassing.
