Painful
Because my life isn't enough fun these days, today I got my tooth taken care of. But the dentist was ambitious and decided to take all four wisdom teeth out.
Ow. That really sucked.
Right now I'm just waiting for the numbness to wear off, even though I know I'll then be in pain. The numbness is really uncomfortable. I can't feel the lower half of my face. And Tori seems mildly alarmed by my bloody drool. Yikes.
The only good news? I'm eating me some fucking ice cream. Fuck weight watchers. Heh.
By the way, if you're coming down off the gas (yes, I had the gas, even though I'm a recovering addict/alcoholic--FOUR TEETH WERE PULLED), and your dentist likes to sing along to the radio, it's really, really weird. Imagine my surprise to come out of the fog to him singing "I'm a bluebird, I'm a bluebird, I'm a blue bird."
Bizarre.
Going to go lie down now.

Oh man, Cecily, sorry about everything! And yes, having all of your wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, sucks, sucks, sucks. I know.
I hope things get better soon.

Ouch. I hope whatever they can give you for pain will be enough. FWIW, the day of my wisdoom tooth extraction was the worst part. The next day was still sore, and after that it was fine.
Of course you would need anesthesia; there isn't any other way to go where surgery is concerned. Apparently you can get the upper ones out with just shots but not the lower ones.
Here's to happier days, Cecily.

Oh, the pain! So sorry. That was one of the worst things I ever went through (OK, never went through childbirth yet). Hope you feel better soon!

I'm so glad to hear you had the gas, I was worried you had tried valiantly to go without it.
And Essie-I've dealt with both childbirth and extensive dental work. Both can be awful and at least I got babies from the childbirth. I got nothing from the dental work, unless you count my wisdom teeth in a jar.

Ewww, sounds like a rough few days in your future. Hang in there. Are you only able to take tylenol or advil for pain? Yikes!

Ugh, just got two of my wisdom teeth out a month ago, that was definitely not fun. And I took Vicodin for the first time, only to spend the entire next day in bed trying not to throw up, the room spinning every time I moved. That sucked! Then I took advil and that worked fine, so I recommend advil as a pain reliever.
The only advice I can give is to try to make yourself as comfortable as possible, and you definitely get a pass to eat as much ice cream as you want! Also, try to only eat pureed foods for like 3-4 days at least, that helped me a lot b/c nothing irritated the sockets.

Yikes! Is anyone insane enough to think you shouldn't have gas with teeth being hacked out of your mouth????

Ech. Wisdom teeth. I had my three (I've only ever had three) pulled in one day, without gas, and it was--unpleasant. Because while I couldn't *feel* anything I could still *hear* it when they were yanking them out. I wish they'd had me bring an iPod or something. Plus anesthetizing the roof of my mouth hurt like a bitch and brought tears to my eyes--I hope you were out for that part.
Don't drink through a straw--they may not tell you that, but it's a really good way to dislodge your clots.

Heh, the gas never does a thing for me. Hope the pain isn't too bad when the novocaine wears off.

So funny about the singing. My wisdom teeth were all impacted, so I had them surgically excised under that lovely twilight sedation they use in dentistry. When I awoke, I said "Dr. that was fine, but why were you singing in Spanish the whole time?" He wasn't. Enjoy the ice cream. I still remember as one of my fondest memories (wow, I need a life!) my mother bringing me milkshakes after my surgery...made remarkable by the fact that she was so f--king (sorry) uptight about my weight that I can't think of a single other time she's offered me sweets. Issues...? Yep, I've got 'em.

OMG Cecily! Stop with this now! The furnace, the debit card, 4 teeth?

Ooh, a dentist who'll use gas? Send me the number!
(Oh, yeah -- sorry about your teeth. ;o)

Sorry to hear about your teeth... but according to this: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory?id=2910092 study eating ice cream can help you get pregnant :P.

I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, and it sucked, but I did learn about percocet....
In any case I hope you feel better soon!

The last time I was 'under' was for a lap. When I woke up my hubby told me that we couldn't have sex for 2 weeks. I shreiked at him in disbelief. "What?! Two weeks?!"
Most women would welcome the break. Not me.

OMG...I can't believe you had all 4 pulled!
I have a pathological fear of getting teeth pulled even though I never have and have never really had a bad experience at the dentist. But the thought of having a tooth pulled terrifies me like nothing else!
*shudder*
You are one tough mo-fo. :D

i had my one wisdom tooth pulled. didn't have any trouble with it really.
i did learn, however, that god gave us painkillers -- even to us junkies -- because physical pain isn't strictly necessary for spiritual growth. (the spiritual pain is a bitch, tho.)
so, don't abuse them and you're good. now go be comfortable.
and if the ice cream knocks you up, all the better, no? ;-)

Oh, I'm so sorry. I had mine done too, and it was hell. Definitely eat the ice cream. No, really. :)
I made the mistake of not eating or drinking anything, and ended up passing out in the middle of the night when I finally decided to get up and get a drink because I was so dehydrated by then. The ice cream will keep you hydrated and healthy.
I take my 7 year old to the oral surgeon next week to have an extra tooth cut out and two baby teeth removed. It's dentistry all around this month!

Oh you poor poor thing!!!!! While I haven't had mine out (should do that sometime, one is halfway in and shoving on a molar and another keeps pushing to the surface then receding), I remember all too well my husbands....he was completely put under and had them done by an oral surgeon who said he'd never in 15 years of practice seen teeth that messed up :( You can imagine the recovery, especially since they had to take a molar too, it was totally entwined wiht the wisdom tooth to the point they were more or less one really big, nasty impaction.
Go eat ice cream and other nummy cold things and snuggle that baby!

Oh, man, do I remember that. When I had all four impacted wisdom teeth out, I ate nothing but chocolate pudding and lukewarm mac-n-cheese for a couple of days. :-) It was paradise (aside from the drool and the big empty sockets in the back of my head.)

I used to LOVE the gas as a teen going to the dentist :) I would suck it in long and deep. Heh.
I had six impacted wisdom teeth pulled three years ago. Put it off for YEARS. The surgery was not so bad as I was put under and the pain killers were pretty helpful.
Then I had to go and do what he said NOT to do, smoked and got the worst infection you can imagine. Excruciating pain for 3 weeks! The lesson? Listen to the dentists pearls of wisdom, sigh.

Oh dear - wisdom teeth pulled out on a grownup, too painful to imagine!
And as for the gas, they stuck that on me when I was getting a numbing shot and they hit a nerve and I burst into tears. What a waste, it did nothing for me. Not my drug of choice apparently!
This might make you feel better about pain management. The husband got a wisdom tooth pulled a few months ago. They gave him oxycontin and he was still miserable (and this is a guy who has never taken a narcotic in his life)! After that wore of I decided to be decent wife and share the vicodin I'd gotten after my recent csection, since I knew it worked yummy wonders for pain. He was fuzzy headed, but it still hurt. In desperation I suggested he take two aspirin. That stopped the pain! He took asprin the next few days until the pain went away.
Sending pain free healing vibes your way!

Oh my holy pain. I had my wisdom teeth out my first year in college and I couldn't bend down to pick stuff up for MONTHS. Mine had roots up into my sinuses and lovely stuff like that! I remember the first thing I wanted to eat afterwards were chicken tenders from burger king and an oreo shake from Applebees...I had to stop my mom from cutting up my chicken into teeny bits.
I hope you heal soon and feel better! You'll be glad they're gone for sure!

I hated, hated, HATED loosing teeth as a kid. mostly because of the nasty taste of blood in the mouth and the funny feeling in the tummy after swallowing the blood. so getting all 4 wisdom teeth done on the same day was my least favorite day for a long time. it was made only slightly better by getting to eat ice cream and mashed potatoes (not mixed together, of course...)
sleep lots and feel better soon!! I've got my fingers crossed for you that there's no bruising!
