Friday Noodlings
I have no great wisdom to share today. My head is swimming in a great morass of fogginess due to being put on beta blockers for my incessant fucking migraines. I've pretty much had a headache non-stop for the last ten days or so (with some days being better than others). I've exceeded the amount of medication my insurance will pay for for the month (after the 22nd I can get more--thanks, fuckwad insurance company).
The beta blockers seem to be helping, but now I have a headache and feel stupid and tired and like I'm trying to breathe underwater.
Sigh.
I'm pathetic, aren't I?

I have been horribly remiss about this... a while back, Bluepaintred nominated me for a Thinking Blogger Award. So did Tiffany. So did Melessa.
Thank you all. Apparently there is an award badge I could paste in my sidebar but since I've been such a brat about mentioning it, I'm not going to (plus, I don't have time to find it and paste it--working two jobs right now, remember? Ack).
But it's nice to be told that I'm a thinker. Cause sometimes I feel like I'm just speaking out my ass.
I know I'm supposed to nominate someone in turn. But how to choose from all the many, many blogs I read? All you guys are big thinkers and tackle big subjects now and again. I don't want to choose. Please don't make me choose. You are all just too awesome to select just one.

Once again, I need y'alls advice. I want to buy a domain name (cecily.com is taken--damn it--but cecily.org is still free!). Any suggestions of who what where? I don't want to get ripped off. Or pay much. Heh.

As a present to myself (heh) I'm going to be buying a new computer. Ok, it's really so that I can work from home effectively. It will have a webcam (cause I'm buying this--hopefully in the next week or so--and it comes with it) so video posts are definitely in my future. :)

My boss just called me to go over the job requirements for the job posting for my current job (did that make sense? damn beta blockers). It feels really real now. I'm so excited.
Tori is doing more and more cool things every day. Her top teeth are breaking through (fun for nursing!) and she is seriously considering crawling or walking or cruising. All at once. I can't believe her little brain hasn't burst open from all the thinking she's doing as she figures stuff out. In the last ten days or so her rolling over ability has become so fast and fluid that she has taken to doing WHILE SHE'S NURSING. Yes. With a boob in her mouth.
Can you say ouch? Luckily, my boobs are so damned saggy that she can do it and still keep on suckling. Seriously.
And with that lovely image in your minds (just call me twisty-boob) I hope you have a great weekend, folks.

I use godaddy.com for my domain registrations. I find them reasonable...and trustworthy. I have never had an issue with them at all. They do hosting too if you need hosting but I don't know if they are reliable there or not because frankly I am hosted on someone else's service...

I use GoDaddy for both domain names and hosting and love them.

Too funny about the twisty boobs. Well, funny for me, not so much for you!

We do domain registry and hosting through BlueHost. Good pricing, good support, easy to navigate their interface, and as a bonus, they'll do this masking thing where they hide your private info on the registry (so random people can't search your address). Maybe not an issue for everyone, but it was important to us.

Sam's top teeth are coming in, too. I yell every time he latches on. My yelling makes him cry. We start the whole thing over again. Fun!
Is the domain for your blog? If it is, I like wastedbirthcontrol.com and if it isn't maybe your full name?

Cecily,
Maybe you don't have migraines. Maybe you have grief. April 3rd was 10 days ago, and that post was pretty intense, and led to more intense processing.
Regardless, I'm glad you are on beta blockers. There have been more than a few studies on propranolol and it's healing effect on the brain, especially after trauma. And the boys pregnancy and birth was traumatic for you. A therapist I know refers the these things as "adrenaline burning into the brain".
And propranolol is supposed to help with that. And therapy, and love, and talking about it all.
If I'm waaayyy off base, please ignore me.
Just know I'll follow you to any domain name on earth.

So sorry about the beta blockers. They can really drag you down and out. My daughter was on them from the age of 4 to 7 for tachycardia. Then she had it surgically corrected and got off the meds. It was incredible the difference it made in her. She has grown so much since and her energy and sports performance has skyrocketed.
I wish you the best with getting your migraines under control. I get them occasionally and they are wretched. I cannot image having them as often as you do.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy Miss Tori!

Cecily, I agree with Aurelia. I meant to write you off-line about this last weekend, but time got away from me. In your post about the boys you wrote that it still felt so raw. Are you still going to Weight Watchers? (STAY with me on this.) I have noticed in myself that when I am trying to lose weight, that my emotions and grief are right on the surface and much, much more intense. You know, numbing emotions by consuming er, everything! This may be totally off base, if it is-just use your favorite f-word and tell me to shut up and hand me my ass-hat. Just wanted to give you some insight that I have gained about myself, and maybe it could help you. Either way, I hope you feel better soon.

I'll just add, gorgeous computer, My boyfriend has one and loves it. Have you decided wetehr to corrupt it with a copy of windows, o are you leaving in it's beautiful as nature intended state?

Have you ever been food tested or kept a food journal that tracks your intake AND your migraines? Red wine, aged cheeses, soy, combinations of various foods or overdoing of single foods like a combo of red wine and shrimp or too much shrimp can trigger massive migraines for me. Stress is another trigger as are flashing lights for some people. Good luck!

Was twisty-boob.com taken, then? (Sorry, couldn't resist...)
Sorry to hear about the migraines - I suffer from them now and then (hormonal), but they were worse when I was a child (yes, I've had them since I was 7 years old). I hope you're able to wean yourself off the beta blockers and be migraine free.
Posted by: Janet | Friday, April 13, 2007 at 03:58 PM
Sorry to hear about the migraines. Do you think the twisty boob is connected to your brain? : )
I'm journaling food intake myself for some stupid health issues. I hope we both find answers.

I use GoDaddy.com for all of my domains. Then I use Upsy Daisy Productions for hosting. It's run by a local woman and I like to support home-grown business, so... :)
I think we should join a group or something for women who nurse whose little ones like to rotate with the nips in their teeth! Abby does the same thing to me, too! And I'm with you on the saggy boob thing - I've never know what it was like to have perky boobs! LOL

Ah yes (wince) I remember the twisty boob stage. "But" (in the voice of nursing little ones world wide) "there are just some MANY cool things to look at, and I wanna nurse! Cant I just take it with me?" I remembering needing to re-train (for lack of a better word) Kawika's latch after his front teeth came in. He would drag them and I'd have teeth indentations after he nursed, ah fun times I tell ya. After the initial nurse I'd just pop him off and resettle him, seemed to help. That and I think after awhile he got use to those strange new things in his mouth.
Have a good weekend and I hope your head gives you a break and you feel better.
And can I put in a vote for wastedbirthcontrol.com?

Twisty Boob? Hmmm...sounds a bit like a rock band to me...lol.
Give your body a couple of weeks to adjust to the beta blockers and I think you'll be amazed. I had at least two migraines a month for almost 25 years and they were GONE within a month of starting atenolol. I've been migraine free for three years now, although I do get an occasional "regular" headache.
I hope you have the same result!

namecheap.com - they are very awesome. I've also heard overwhelmingly good things about dreamhost (for hosting AND I think they throw in a domain). also, yahoo is selling 1.99 domains right now, I've purchased from them in the past with no problem.

I use godaddy.com for all my domains and all domains I register for clients. Cheap and easy. However, I think their web hosting sucks ass. I tried with three different clients and finally just had to move, they made it so difficult to manage. (Of course, I do my own hosting now - sumydesigns.com - if you need it) but you can find a variety of good hosts out there - dreamhost, lightning servers, total choice hosting, to name a few. (Some offer free domains with their hosting packages too.) Just remember to stay away from the Windows hosting and go with Unix. Trust me, you'll thank be glad.

I know nothing about domain name stuff except that Go Daddy runs really stupid sexist ads during the Superbowl.
We LOVE our new Imac. So elegant, so fast, so easy - and kids really enjoy the camera photo booth thingy.
Ugh. Nursing gymnastics. HATE.

I have a migraine tonight too. I had a really really bad one last Saturday too. Tonight's is not as bad as last weeks. You know the kind where you contemplate going to the ER...I have the same issue w/ my insurance. They will only six Relpax pills a month.
I hope your head finds some peace!!!!!

You're very welcome for the nod and now I've got two new blogs to read. (You know what they say about great minds and all that...) And I won't make you pick, but only because I like you, twisty boobs and all. ;>)

Ooohh. Migraines. BAD. Can relate. And don't ya love that business about "the insurance company will only pay for one package of NINE pills per month?"
Posted by: Jane | Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 09:37 AM
Cecily, I have chronic migraines too. Now I buy the drugs (generic Imitrex) from India. Terrifyingly cheap: 90 bucks for 30 50mg pills!! And ask your dr about Topamax. Great side effect: weight loss.

I will get back to you on the domain name, I just wanted to say I have my website hosted through webbywarehouse.com and they register the domain name (or you can) from godaddy.com.. I have been with them for quite a few years. I love em!
My nipples hurt from thinking about what little one is doing to yours! lmao
Posted by: InDueTime | Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 02:20 PM
Netfirms.com 4.95 a year for the name. Then you can forward to your other site or get hosting from them...really cheap too. (4.95 a month for blog type account.) Can upgrade to business for `14.95 a month. I have used them for ages.
I don't think Go Daddy is compatable with Mac...if you don't already hava a Mac and plan on getting one, make sure it's compatable!

GoDaddy is fine and you get a nice online user interface with that. I just bought a domain for an organization I'm in, this week, actually. I wish I'd known things 24 hours in advance of when I did... Like I bought my domain from GoDaddy but thru Google, so I paid $10/yr instead of $8. Oh well. But I also didn't know that even though Google lets you host for free (and has lots of neat perks) they don't allow you to make directories. Like this is totally dumb. You can't organize anything. It's like giving you a closet for free but telling you that you can't put plastic containers *in* the closet so you can organize your stuff. Blah... It's free. So I'll have to find something I have to pay for.
The really important thing is to make sure you buy your name from an ICANN certified place. GoDaddy is such a place. Don't buy your name from the place you're getting your hosting from, unless they are ICANN (or farm it out to someone who is). The list of ICANN Registrars is at the ICANN site. If you don't have an ICANN certified Registrar, they can essentially register your domain name 'for you', but then they own it. If they are ICANN, they've promised to allow you to switch to a different ICANN registrar later if you request it.

When I chose my hosting and registration service I really wanted a samll, female run business to give my support to. So after shit loads of reasearch I found Mystic Moon Hosting. MysticMoonHosting.com. I like ther personal service, the small business, big service atmosphere. Plus she is very affordable. Giveh her a look. Tell her I sent you. I have been with her for over a yera nd am looking into purchasing a second domain.
Have fun

Nursing gymnastics are a lot of fun! Ha!
On to migraines: beta blockers did not cause me any side effects, but did nothing for my migraines either. I have also tried calcium channel blockers, SSRI's, MAOI's--let's see, that's all I can recall right now, but there were others--at least a dozen. The only prophylactic drug that ever helped was topamax (an anti-seizure drug). And it does have the nice effect of dampening the appetite (the only thing that has ever done that for me short of acute depression). However, after a time on topamax it was not as effective so my dose was increased which brought on another lovely side effect of topamax--word loss. I was a major, major ditz on it. I would forget co-workers names--people I had worked with for many years, along with words I used every single day. I just couldn't deal with that.
Back to the neurologist I went. Finally he suggested botox. I kid you not this has been nothing short of miraculous. I was having 12-14 days of HA a month. Now, I have had 2-3. Imitrex is a lifesaver, but to not have them at all is the best, best, best. I get botox shots (multiple, all over my head) about every three and a half months now. Done in five minutes and good to go. Added benefit of fewer forehead wrinkles--don't mind that!
And I hear you on the insurance company limits on how much they will give you--bites the big one. My doctor was able to write a letter of exception for me to get more than the limit each month for imitrex. Good news is that the patent for imitrex is running out in teh next couple of years so that it should be cheaper and the insurance companies shouldn't have limits at that point. F***ing insurance. You might ask about botox injections.
Also, the only triggers I have ever identified were hormones and flying. No food issues. I was ready to cut off my head after a six day migraine last year, so I hope you feel better soon! (Sorry so long--hope something here is of help.)

Another vote for GoDaddy. My husband, who sets up domains regularly for himself and his clients, swears by it.
Posted by: Kate | Monday, April 16, 2007 at 03:10 PM
Oh, to add, but he uses dreamhost for hosting. GoDaddy is just for registering the domain.

I feel your pain about the migraines. I'm on week three with only a day or two break at a time. Lot's of fun with a one year old. For what it's worth the only thing that ever REALLY helped was accupuncture and massage. Expensive and not covered by insurance but it actually prevents the migraines instead of treating them. Unfortunately, everyone is different so it may not work for you (if you could even afford it). I just wanted to say what works for me (when I have the money) in case it helps someone. I hope you feel better soon!
