Day 10: The Sandias

Just a short post today while Tori naps. Today we took the tram to the top of the Sandia Mountains. I grew up with the massive 10,000 foot tall Sandia Mountains in my backyard, the very definition of "purple mountain majesty."

One of the first poems I ever wrote was about these mountains when I was eight years old. They are, in a word, glorious. I've never seen them from the tram's point of view, although I've hiked the trail beneath the tram (OK, once, when I was 12) so it was really cool to ride it up there.

Speaking of cool, it was COLD up at the crest. We took a few photos and quickly ran into the restaurant on the peak to eat lunch (New Mexico green Chile stew; yummy--they put green chilies in everything here. Last night I had them in chicken tortellini at an Italian restaurant) where I filmed a short video for Sarah because she's jonesing for some Tori footage. Enjoy. Oh, and by the way, more photos are available both at my flickr site and at Charlie's.

Tori is adorable! She has the sweetest little voice.

Friggin' eh she's adorable!!!

YAY!!!! That made my week!!!! :-)

Thank you so much, and thank you Tori!! I love you all. xoxox

Those mountains are stunning.

WOW Tori is really talking well. And what a view!!! The restaurant looked like it was flying.

What a sweetheart. My daughter turns 11 today, and it seems like just last week she had that little munchkin voice like Tori. Soak up every minute with your baby...they grow up so fast. (I got sick of everyone telling me that, but damn, it's true).

The mountains are amazing!

Hi Cecily, I was going to wait until you came back to PA to send this message, but I want to send it now. You met me once or twice at the GC, Tim gave me the url for your blog. I hope this was ok. I have to say...I have a crush on you. No really, I love you. I am in awe of you. You are awesome! I have so much to learn from you. I can't put this into words properly (I'm not the writer you are) but I'm looking forward to talking with you sometime when you come back. I love the pics of Tori too!!! Have a happy trip!! :)

SOOOO beautiful!! I love that tram ride!! Thanks for letting me visit Albq. vicariously through you!!

Have fun!

PS -- Tori is adorable!! I just wanna pinch those chubbylittlecheeks! :)

Oh, man. There's nothing like the landscape of home. For me, it's the rolling hills of Central Texas. There's a knot that seems to unwind in the back of my neck when I drive through the Hill Country, like a deep breath that I've forgotten I could take, and I can tell from your post how much the Sandias seem to do the same for you.

I wish I had known before that you were coming through AZ. I could have given you some toys or something that might have made Tori more happy. Have a wonderful visit with your family!

Your pictures are so making me want to relocate. (Kansas is borring to look at). Glad you are having such a good trip.

you have absolutely gorgeous pictures of your trip! You should really look for some photo contests! seriously! And, Yes... traveling with kids (toddlers) is interesting. I'd rather chew on gravel.
