Tucson, Day Two: Sickness & Meltdowns

So today I'm sick, and Tori melted down.

I woke up after a night of bad sleep feeling tight in the chest; tight enough to call my doctor's office in Philly and ask them to call in a script for a rescue inhaler (I'm technically asthmatic, although I no longer need medication for it) to a local pharmacy (I would have brought one from home, but mine were all expired). Now I'm coughing up a storm and feel kind of run down and while I'm putting on a good face and trying to hide it, it ain't really working. I'm not surprised; I've felt like I was fighting something off for more than a week. But still. Ug.

Add to that the fact that Tori refused to nap today... until we drove to dinner. Oy. Major meltdown at dinner. Her first public meltdown (other than the plane trip out here). She wouldn't eat, she wouldn't drink milk, she wouldn't take a binky, she wouldn't look at the photos of dogs on the wall, she knew the photo of the brunette woman on the wall wasn't Sarah. It was rough. She cleared out the little Mexican place we were eating dinner in. We were supposed to go watch our friend Denni practice for her Roller Derby bout on Saturday (seriously, I know the coolest fucking people) and I thought Tori would be into it, but alas--no.

So I'm going to go take some more cough syrup and lay down. Here's a couple of photos for ya. More are here, of course. Check there throughout the trip.

Yes, those are cupcakes on her butt. They make me squeal.

Sod's Law: you saved getting sick for your holiday! Hope you feel better soon. I'm looking forward to Albuquerque pics, I spent a summer there when I was 15.

Sorry you're not feeling well. There should just be some sort of divine law regarding when one can get sick and when one cannot. Vacations should be a "cannot".

And, yes, the cupcakes on the skirt? Too effing ADORABLE. They make me want to squeal, too!

My high school boyfriend and I used to go hiking at Gate's Pass. I haven't been there in years. The photos brought back so many memories.

I hope you feel better! Sucks to be sick on vacation. My kids always had a day of behavior fallout the day or two after travelling. Hopefully today will be better.

Are you going up to Sabino Canyon? Beautiful, beautiful hiking up there & a little tram that Tori might enjoy. We used to take the tram up and then walk back down.

I'm so sad to hear you are sick! That just sucks! And hopefully Tori is just having a delayed reaction to the whole upheaval of travel and time difference and will adjust today a little better.
xoxo

That really sucks. My husband was sick when we were on our trip to Europe (Bell's palsy). No good. Hopefully you will feel better soon.

Awww. Hope you feel better today. Love the photos. The surroundings are beautiful. I can not tell what the weather is though b/c you, Tori & Charlie were in short sleeves, but Dave was wearing a jacket.

So sorry to hear you are sick.

But -- ooh, Tori is one cute little girl.

That is so not fair being sick on vacation. I hope you get better soon.

The cupcakes are precious. She has some of the cutest clothes. That's one of the best parts about having a little girl. I hope the meltdowns don't continue.

Be safe, have fun, feel better.

Oh no, the no nap and then try to eat is the worse! We had a meltdown today too because we are looking at houses and we were seeing one right at naptime. D through a major drop-down-on-the-floor-kicking-and-screaming hissy fit right as we were trying to leave house #2. Our real estate agent didn't seem too happy with us (too bad!). He totally passed on his lunch, too. They just get to a point where they are too tired to do anything.

I hope you are feeling better soon. Being sick on vacation sucks!

So sorry you are sick :(
Tori's poncho is precious! So New Mexican ;)

love the pics hope you feel better fast!
HUGS

Gorgeous shots Cecily and love Tori's lil poncho. Get better!

She's too adorable for words. Meltdowns and all.

Hope you guys are back in shape today. Tucson is magic in February. More pictures of ocatillas, please.

I know this is ridiculous (and maybe I'm just hormonal), but, I'm looking at your photos and reading your description of the Saguaros, and I'm so lonely for Tucson I feel like I could cry. I came back to the midwest to be close to my family, but, I really loved that place...

Sorry you are sick,
Gretchen
