It's All Good
So, have you all heard of Type-A Mom? Well, if not, you better start to visit that site because guess who their new "mommy editor" about Mommy Blogging is?
Um, that would be me. :)
Yes, my first "pro" blogging job! Course, I don't really get paid for it (well, ad revenue) but I do get experience and a notch on my belt. So that's great. I'm thrilled. Plus it will be a fun topic to explore, something I don't really get to do here (I know I could, but I haven't yet). Anyway.
Thanks for the kind words about the "cabin," although I'm not sure how I let you folks think it was vacation. I was working, trust me! Besides the trips to Wal-Mart and thrift stores, I was trying to get some of my normal work in between chasing Tori around the trailer. Luckily, she slept like a dream up there so we got more done than we expected. We still have to furnish the living room, but what can you do? I can't make a nice used couch simply appear. Sadly.
I wish I had something more profound to say, but I have a migraine creeping in (but I had two days migraine free!). So go explore the articles at Type-A Mom and let me know what you think, m'kay?

I start a new migraine drug tomorrow that is apparently not TERRIBLY common in the US; I'll let you know if it rocks my world (the good news is that even if it doesn't, THIS one is dirt-cheap). Yay on the job!

Hi Cecily,
I checked out the mom blog and love it!! What a cool websit! Unfortunately, I cannot seem to post responses there because I cannot "see" the security image. I was trying to post a response to the mom with the ADHD son. If you have time, perhaps you could pass along the message below??
I thought she might find some of the information useful.
Hi, I have two boys who are ADHD. I thought you may be interested to know there are many things you can do that will make things a little easier for your son, without medication.
First, if you had him diagnosed, he could qualify for what is called an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). He may not need it at his current age, but it could become very important as he grows. This will allow him to have certain accomodations at school with respect to tests and homework. For instance, he may be allowed more time on timed tests and/or he may be given reduced homework if he cannot sit still and focus long enough to complete it all. It could also protect his rights if he starts getting into a lot of trouble because of his inability to sit still and focus.
In addition, he could be provided with "fidets" and other gadgets that would allow him to use his excess energy in ways that are not distracting or disruptive to the other kids. For example, my son has a small stretching toy may of rubber that he can play with in lieu of the pencil tapping.
Something else worth checking into is something called "sensory processing disorder." The symptoms can be identical to those of ADHD. In fact, some research would indicate the two disorders are the same, or overlapping. My older son was tested for this and we found that he craves certain types of sensory input and other types drive him crazy. He loves deep pressure touch, for example, and because he cannot tune out background noise loud sounds make him go crazy.
We also found that certain activities - heavy lifting and swinging - help him to be able to calm down and focus.
There is a great book on this subject called "The out of sync child" I highly recommend it.
Whatever you decide to do, you should know that having him diagnosed does not mean you have to medicate him. There are many parents who chose not to medicate their ADHD children.

Have you tried to find things on freecycle? That's what I am trying to do. The problem is that most of the time things seem to get taken before I can get in on it. Oh, well, it is worth a shot.

Two days without a migraine?
Could it be environmental? My sister has these and they were aggravated by VOC's Volatile organic compounds in the plywood that sheathed the roof in her sunroom. It would build up during the day and within 10 minutes of entering it triggered a migraine. They removed the plywood and sealed it with a special compound that acted as a barrier.
If you have'nt explored this option you might find it helpful.
Hope that helps. If not, here's 15 seconds of your life you've shot to hell. :)

HUGE CONGRATS on the new bloggin' job! You're one of my faves (of course). Been following your words for so long!
I second the Freecycle idea. I've personally given away some awesome stuff on it, most because I'm lazy and don't feel like hauling it away. Some of us just have too much furniture. :)

Can a person comment on the twitter?
Cause, I think that with the small addition of doctor who, we watch the same things on friday nights.
Feeling a bit less nerdy is all.

I had "harnesses" for my kid(s)(think of a dog leash, with halter type harness around body --it zipped up in BACK).. starting in the late 80's. Best things ever! Yes, I got dirty looks, but safe kid. Not to mention the best thing ever while going thru O'hare airport with and infant and toddler by yourself! (WHAT! 20 minute walk to the terminal for my connecting flight!)...

Do you mind posting about what your migraine regiman(sp?) is? I've suffered for years from them and am going through millions of tests right now. The only thing that only seems to work is Percocet, but I don't think that's the best thing for me to take. If you feel better about emailing me, that's fine. Thanks!

I'm so happy to have you on board at Type-A Mom. Your writing is wonderful, and I know many mommy bloggers and aspiring mommy bloggers will learn from your experiences (and enjoy it!). Your first post was great.
